A floor standing enclosure is a free-standing cabinet designed to house electrical, control, automation, or networking equipment. It is installed directly on the floor and provides secure, enclosed protection for internal components.
They are commonly used to house control panels, switchgear, PLC systems, drives, power distribution equipment, and other electrical assemblies but can be used for an unlimited number of applications where items need to be locked away or shielded from adverse weather conditions.
Floor standing enclosures offer greater internal space, higher load capacity, and easier access for large or heavy equipment, while wall mounted enclosures are intended for smaller installations.
Yes. Floor standing enclosures are designed for industrial and commercial environments and can be specified to meet demanding environmental and safety requirements.
They can be used indoors as standard. For outdoor use, enclosures should be specified with suitable materials, finishes, seals, and IP ratings.
They are available in a wide range of standard heights, widths, and depths. Custom enclosures can also be manufactured to suit specific size and specification requirements. If we don’t have a suitable size on the website, please do enquire with our team about a custom unit.
You should consider equipment dimensions, future expansion, ventilation requirements, cable routing, and safe working clearances. Where applicable, DNO size or specification requirements should also be checked.
Many floor standing enclosures are modular and can be bayed together to create larger enclosure systems.
Yes. Floor standing enclosures can be coupled side-by-side to form enclosure suites or control line-ups.
Yes. They are designed to support substantial internal loads and can be supplied with reinforced frames if required. The ply backboards are rated to take 20kg.
Floor standing enclosures are available in GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic), mild steel, galvanised steel, and stainless steel to suit a wide range of applications.
Mild steel is suitable for most indoor environments, GRP offers excellent corrosion resistance, and stainless steel is recommended for corrosive, hygienic, or outdoor applications.
Yes. GRP enclosures are not susceptible to corrosion, and steel enclosures are protected by powder coating or galvanising. Periodic refinishing of steel enclosures is recommended to maintain protection.
Yes. Stainless steel enclosures are suitable for food, pharmaceutical, marine, and washdown environments.
Most designs include removable doors, with some ranges also offering removable bottom panels to aid cable access.
Common IP ratings include IP54, IP55, and IP65, depending on enclosure design, sealing, and material.
IP54 is typically suitable for clean indoor environments, while IP65 or higher is recommended for dusty, wet, or washdown areas.
Yes, when specified with appropriate materials, coatings, seals, and weatherproof features.
They can be manufactured to comply with BS EN, IEC, CE, and UKCA standards.
Many ranges are manufactured from fire-resistant materials, typically providing up to 30 minutes fire resistance as standard.
Options include single or double doors and glazed doors. Custom enclosures can be manufactured with door sizes specified to suit requirements.
Yes. Most enclosures are supplied with lockable handles or hasp and staple locks as standard. Upgraded security-rated locking options are available on custom enclosures.
Options include key locks, padlockable handles, and enhanced security locking systems.
Standard enclosures have fixed configurations. Custom enclosures can be manufactured with alternative door positions if required.
Yes. Enhanced locks, security-rated doors, or other access control features can be specified on request.
Ventilation is often required where internal equipment generates heat.
Options include filter fans, roof fans, air conditioning units, and heat exchangers.
Yes. Anti-condensation heaters are commonly installed to control moisture levels.
Yes, when specified with appropriate cooling and ventilation solutions.
Acoustic insulation can be added to reduce noise generated by internal equipment.
They can be supplied empty, partially assembled, or fully fitted depending on requirements.
Most floor standing enclosures are supplied with a removable mounting plate as standard.
Yes. DIN rails and internal mounting systems are available.
Cable entry is typically via removable gland plates in the top or base of the enclosure.
Yes. Earthing studs or grounding points are normally provided as standard.
They are positioned directly on the floor and can be bolted down for stability if required.
Plinths are optional and provide cable access, and protection from floor conditions.
The majority of our enclosures are fully assembled in the factory. We do have a range that can be sent flat-packed to aid getting the enclosure to a difficult to reach area.
Lead times vary depending on size, material, and whether the enclosure is standard or bespoke. Lead times range from next day to 6 weeks approx.
Yes. Custom enclosures can be manufactured to meet specific size, layout, and specification requirements.
Yes. Enclosures can be powder coated in alternative RAL colours on request.
Yes. Custom machining for cut-outs and apertures can be provided.
Yes. Technical guidance is available to assist with enclosure selection and specification.
Yes. Bulk and project pricing can be provided for larger orders.
Delivery is available across mainland UK, with other locations available by arrangement.
Yes. Warranty terms vary depending on the product and manufacturer.
Replacement doors, panels, locks, and accessories are generally available.
Regular inspection, cleaning, and checking of seals, locks, and fixings is recommended.
Some modifications are possible, but factory machining is recommended to maintain IP ratings.
Selection should be based on environment, equipment size, protection rating, future expansion needs, and compliance requirements.
