Our UKPN and DNO specification GRP kiosks are designed for electrical installations where equipment needs to be securely housed outdoors in accordance with the typical requirements set out in the UK Power Networks (UKPN) G81 guidelines. These kiosks provide a durable, weather-resistant and non-corrosive enclosure for switchgear, metering and control equipment in both commercial and domestic environments.

Constructed from glass-reinforced polyester (GRP), they offer excellent protection against weather exposure, UV degradation and impact damage, while requiring minimal ongoing maintenance. All include 18mm thick ply backboards for equipment mounting, and lockable doors to maintain security and safe access on site.

These kiosks are commonly selected by electrical contractors and network designers working on UKPN-adopted networks, new service connections, street furniture power supplies, small substations, and LV distribution upgrades. When installed correctly on a level, non-combustible base, they provide reliable long-term housing for critical electrical equipment.

Please note: While these kiosks are suitable for projects designed to UKPN G81 specifications, individual site approval should always be confirmed by the project designer, DNO engineer or ICP (Independent Connection Provider).

Does the kiosk come with a backboard for mounting meters or switchgear?

Yes, all our UKPN-specification kiosks are supplied with a heavy-duty 18mm thick ply backboard as standard. This provides a secure and non-conductive surface for electrical contractors to mount UKPN-adopted meters, cut-outs, and control gear.

What fire rating do these kiosks provide?

Our UKPN range is manufactured from fire-retardant fiberglass with a Class 2 rating, providing 30 minutes of fire resistance. This is a critical safety requirement for enclosures housing high-voltage or high-current electrical distribution equipment.

How do I secure the kiosk to the ground?

The kiosks are designed to be bolted onto a level, non-combustible base (typically concrete). They must be secured on at least two sides to ensure stability and meet DNO safety requirements. Most units include an internal or external fixing flange for this purpose.

What type of locking systems are used on UKPN kiosks?

They are typically fitted with either a cylinder lock or a heavy-duty hasp and staple. This allows for dual-level security—utilizing the standard lock for daily access and a secondary padlock to meet specific DNO or site security protocols.

Do I need approval from UKPN before installing one of these kiosks?

While these kiosks are built to G81 specifications, individual site approval should always be confirmed by your project designer, ICP (Independent Connection Provider), or DNO engineer to ensure the specific dimensions and features meet their local network requirements.
